St.Ledger’s Shepherds is owned and operated by me, Wendy Wilson. When I came to this country in 1975 I brought a black shepherd with me from England. Spade, no papers and we called her Beauty because she was the ugliest pup you ever saw!! She’d been in a situation that just was not right for a dog but boy did she improve as she grew older!

      I was raised with a GSD and they are my favorite breed. In the early 80’s I bought a dog who already had his UD in obedience, I had to find a trainer who could show me what my dog already knew!! So I showed in Open and Utility before I’d made a CD! I went on and put quite a few OB titles on my GSDs. Then I started to breed them because I was not happy with what I was seeing from other people.

      In the beginning I showed my own dogs in the breed ring, bad mistake, it is extremely difficult for an owner handler who is only 4'11" to win and it wasn’t until I went with a professional handler that my dogs started winning and making their Championships.

       I’m very proud at the way my dogs have improved over the years. Breeding is all about improving. Most of my dogs still go to be companion dogs and live in the house with their family. When I first came here that was almost unheard of!! I feel we produce a well rounded dog that looks good, very intelligent and lives a long time!! I have people that are repeat customers which is nice!!

      I also work in rescue founding the North Texas German Shepherd Rescue. I’ve worked in rescue for over 15 years. It is my way of giving back to this wonderful breed.
